Description
Join our complete guided experience to Santorini’s most picturesque and untouched villages and let us introduce you to the lesser-known side of the island. We start our village-hopping at Pyrgos, a scenic village intact by time.
As you roam the narrow alleys of this unique castle village, the narrations of your destination angel, a certified guide, will take you on a journey to the past. Anecdotes, myths and legends about pirates, castles and the medieval Santorini will spark your imagination while introducing you to the island’s architectural characteristics. Here you’ll have the chance to meet the locals and listen to first-hand information about daily life on the island.
On our next stop at the Castelli of Emporio, a 15th-century Venetian castle, we’ll discover some of Santorini’s most important medieval architectural masterpieces. Being the largest village in Santorini, Emporio used to be the commercial center of the island while to this day, inhabitants of the surrounding villages come here for supplies. The area inside the fortified settlement has remained untouched preserving its originality throughout the centuries. Narrow alleys, bridges and arches dotted with white houses, compose a scenery that looks like a fairytale labyrinth. Throughout our walk, you’ll have the chance to take a glimpse of the local life. Our exploration around Emporio couldn’t be complete without a stop at the old local coffee shop “kafeneio” for a Greek traditional coffee, one of the best on the island.
We’ll now head to the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri, one of the most significant archaeological sites of the Aegean. Being one of the most popular and advanced prehistoric towns, Akrotiri has become known as the Pompeii of the Aegean. Your walk around the ancient buildings and prehistoric alleys will be accompanied by captivating storytelling that will take your experience to another level. The archaeological site is covered with an ultra-modern bioclimatic shelter.
The time to visit the island’s natural wonders has come. Even though Santorini is part of the Cyclades, its beaches look nothing like the golden-sand beaches that characterize the rest of the Cycladic islands. As we hike to the worldwide known Red Beach, you’ll realize that Santorini’s beaches have their own wild beauty formed by the island’s volcanic terroir. Watch the reddish rocky landscape colliding connecting with the shores and the sea.
Finally, we’ll taste the island’s traditional dishes at a charming tavern next to the beach of Akrotiri. Built in a cave in 1967, the restaurant was awarded as the best traditional tavern in Santorini during 2007 and 2008.
