Description
With its iconic caldera dotted with the Cycladic whitewashed houses, Santorini is a dream destination for people all over the globe. Let us introduce you to its authentic side with this guided experience. Our tour begins at the traditional village of Pyrgos, the first capital of Santorini, which has been declared a preserved monument since 1995. Built on the foot of Mt. Prophet Elias, Pyrgos offers an outstanding view of the island while its castle, the so-called Kasteli, will introduce you to the Venetian architecture.
As we explore the village’s preserved narrow alleys, you’ll listen to fascinating stories about pirates, castles and the medieval Santorini and at the same time, you’ll get to know all about the customs and daily habits of local villagers.
Our bespoke village-hopping experience continues to Megalochori, a quiet small village lined with car-free, quaint alleys. Our guided walk starts from a beautiful vineyard where the certified guide will analyze the characteristics of the indigenous grape varieties that make the world-acclaimed Santorinian wines. We’ll then make a stop at the only open to visitors cave house on the island to get a glimpse of the different ways of life in the past.
Moving on, we’ll head to the Symposion cultural center, which is housed in an old winery near the square of Megalochori, to watch an innovative, tailor-made mythical music presentation of mythological narration accompanied by fifteen hand-crafted wind and string instruments.
Time for the ultimate hiking experience in Santorini’s awe-inspiring landscape. Following the trail that starts from Imerovigli and leads to Skaros rock, we’ll pass through the ruins of a Venetian castle. From here you’ll see the caldera from above with both the north and south sides of the island unraveling before your eyes.
After a short walk nearby the volcanic crater, we’ll finish off our guided tour at a traditional restaurant in Firostefani. Established in 1922, the traditional restaurant is well-known for its mouthwatering local dishes made of Santorinian products and the amazing view.
