A road trip through the untouched countryside and villages of eastern Crete

As we embark on this exciting road trip in east Crete, we’ll pass by the untouched natural landmarks and the quaint villages of the Sitia region. On our way, we’ll make a pitstop at a traditional café (kafenion) for a refreshing homemade lemon juice and local delicacies to refuel our batteries for this 2,5-hours drive.

 

We’ll then arrive at the small yet awe-inspiring Zakros gorge where steep slopes dotted with big caves create an unearthly scenery. Dubbed as the "Gorge of the Dead" due to the tombs of the Minoan era that were found in the caves, Zakros gorge has findings of great archaeological significance.

 

Your destination angel will provide you with all the necessary information and will introduce you to the gorge’s history and terrain before you embark on your 40-minute hike. This is a moderate descending walking path ideal for beginners and experienced hikers.
