NATURALLY CHIOS: ENJOY A SCENIC MOUNTAIN HIKE AND SEASIDE MEAL IN THE NORTH EAST

 

From the village square, we’ll begin our 1½-2 hour hike on a lush trail to the celebrated Kampia Ravine. Let’s follow the sound of running water from the tributaries emptying into the ravine. Soon, we’ll find ourselves walking along the river where a lovely small arched bridge and waterfall peep out from the dense vegetation.

 

Staying parallel to the river, through thickets of pines, plane trees and wild roses, we’ll encounter a second bridge and a footpath to lead us uphill through rich cultivated areas with panoramic views. As the river re-emerges, the first farmhouses will appear, along with the beach road that will deliver us to the sea and the wetland biotope formed at the mouth of the river.

 

Leaving Kampia behind, it’s time to reward our exertions with a delicious traditional seafood meal in the charming fishing village of Lagada, en-route back to Chios Town. We will dine right by the water at a local taverna favourite, well–known for the quality of its fish and its stunning views to the Oinousses island complex. Quaint Lagada is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill fronting the coastline and offers the unbeatable combination of mountain and sea, amid a pine forest that stretches to the seaside.
