EXPLORE THE ISLAND OF SEAFARERS, OINOUSSES, ON A PRIVATE SAILING ADVENTURE

It won’t take long to clock the island’s strong naval ties. As we enter the picturesque harbour, we’ll be greeted by an emblematic bronze mermaid, crown and sailboat in her left hand. Immediately afterwards, it’s time to meet your destination angel who will bring to life our visits to two local landmarks: the Church of Agios Nikolaos and the impressive Maritime Museum, where you’ll see exhibits such as ship models (most of which were built by French prisoners during the Napoleonic Wars), nautical instruments, old photographs and oil paintings, weapons from the 18th and 19th century, as well as fascinating utensils from the Geometric Period.

 

Walking towards Naftosini Square we’ll encounter the statue of the Unknown Sailor, Greece’s very first recorded statue, dedicated to lost seamen. Let’s wander now the narrow-cobbled lanes and admire the luxurious traditional manors, belonging to the many wealthy shipping families who hail from the island. Back out on our private boat, we’ll approach a cove which is only accessible by sea. Here, we’ll enjoy a refreshing swim in dreamy blue waters and a tasty on-board BBQ, surrounded by natural beauty and tranquility. After lunch, we’re bound for the port of Lagada, a quaint traditional fishing village of Chios, on a hilly stretch of pine-clad coastline.

 

Lagada offers the perfect combination of mountain and sea, as its surrounding pine forest touches the seaside. Here’s your chance to enjoy a coffee by the water with a stirring view back to Oinousses. In the afternoon, we’ll depart for Chios port while you unwind and relish the refreshing sea breeze and the pulse of the waves at sunset. Bliss!
