EMBARK ON A NAXIAN CULTURE TRIP

An intimate escorted road trip with wonderful sights and scenery, brought to life by your dedicated destination angel. We’ll set out from Naxos town and head inland to Galanado village, where the stern tower of Belonia stands sentinel. A lush walking route takes us to the Middle Byzantine church of Saint George Diasoritis. One of the oldest and most important churches of the island, it’s adorned with 11th century frescoes and poetic stone arches. Let’s find out why it’s also one of the most architecturally rare churches in Naxos.

 

Next, we’re headed for the village of Halki. Legend has it that this village was named after a family of coppersmiths and tinkers (halkos = copper) sent there by the Venetians. Graced with stately neoclassical mansions, Halki is one of the most beautiful villages of the island as well as the location of our next destination: the Vallindras distillery. Over 120 years ago, Markos Vallindras pioneered the production of Naxos Kitron, one of the three Greek PDO liqueurs. Here, we will meet its modern-day producers, learn about distillation methods past and the present, and of course, taste this fiery Naxian aperitif for ourselves!
