Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Hike untouched Patmos

This experience is a hike through a rugged but gorgeous area of the island, one that has been left completely undeveloped for centuries, since the era of St. John who came to Patmos around 95AD. We begin our journey at Koumaro (Ano Lampi) and hike through a beautiful forest of arbutus trees, also called strawberry trees, a flowering evergreen that also produces small orange and yellow round berries (not edible). As you follow your destination angel, an experienced hiker, he will fill you in on all the rich history and gorgeous nature of Patmos.

 

Our route leads to the northern slopes of Hondro Vouno (literally “fat mountain”), where the panoramic views of an islet called Balamou and Ikaria, not to mention the endless Aegean, will mesmerise you. Our descent will lead us to the abandoned hermitage of Zaroi, and finally to the beautiful, secluded beach of Kaladaki. Our trail ends after a steep pathway to Kathisma Apollou, or Apollo’s Seat, named after one of the hermit monks that lived in a monastery there.

 

Finally, we will relax and nibble on local specialties in the seaside village of Kampos. Your destination angel will tell you everything you want to know about Patmos and its gorgeous nature and you will get a much-deserved rest.
