Within its gorgeous gardens and museum are many eye-catching religious icons and codices waiting to be admired. The landmark monastery remains operational. Meanwhile, the resident monks still labour to produce the virgin olive oil and wine that you’ll sample for yourself in the catacombs, as your local destination angel enlightens you on their age-old methods.

 

Feel free to pick some up to take home with you! A famous film location is where you’re headed next. Passing through local plantations, we will arrive at Stavros Beach with plenty of time to hear about its starring role in the finale of Zorba the Greek – and take a swim. With its protected and generally calm conditions, Stavros is especially ideal for swimming with children. We will complete our tour by tucking into Cretan ‘’mezedes’’ with a twist, (the Greek way of sharing a variety of small plates during their meals) in a taverna by the sea, accompanied by local wine.
