Description
How would you like to stroll the same paths as the man who inspired Western philosophy? Here is a thought-provoking visit to the first ‘university’ of the Western world, where the foundations of Western science and philosophy were laid two-and-a-half millennia ago by Plato when he founded his Academy in Athens around 387 BC, in the area of Kolonos. There are other important monuments to be discovered in this learned location, some earlier than the Academy, such as the Sacred House Geometric Era, the Gymnasium of the first century BC, and the Early Helladic archaeological house. In a small park opposite, we will also encounter the Digital Museum of Plato, where you’ll become more closely acquainted with Plato and his game-changing concepts.
We will begin our experience outside Plato’s Academy with a walk around the ruins of antiquity’s most thriving philosophical school. An interactive experience in the search for Greek philosophy awaits you. Are you aware of the peripatetic school of philosophy? Its teaching derived from its founder, Aristotle. With your destination angel, a philosophy expert, you will “meet” Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and other pioneering ancient philosophers of the peripatetic school. We will enlighten you about the Myth of the Cave before rounding off your philosophical sortie with a most fitting finale: a picnic in the park, inspired by the ancient Greek symposiums. Savour olives, nuts, rusk, dry fruits and other flavours eaten by the ancient Greeks as they discussed all matters under the sun (with the help of a little wine of course!). You may also visit Plato’s Digital Museum should you wish.
